Obituary for Nedra Ruth Schrock (Miller)

Nedra Ruth  Schrock (Miller)
Nedra Ruth Schrock was born May 21, 1931 in rural Kalona, Iowa, the daughter of Thomas and Ruth (Brenneman) Miller. She graduated from Iowa Mennonite School in 1949. On October 2, 1965, Nedra was united in marriage to Leo Schrock at East Union Mennonite Church.

Nedra has lived in the Kalona community all of her life where she worked as an accountant and owned Schrock’s Tax Service. She was a charter member of the Kalona Mennonite Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years. She was active in the Women’s Mission and Service Committee (WMSC) and ran the apple butter booth at the Mennonite Relief Sale for countless years. She enjoyed gardening, reading a good book, and attending her sons’ and grandchildren’s many sports activities. She especially enjoyed her tax work, meeting new people, and using her earnings to generously help the community. Nedra passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 1, 2017 at the Pleasantview Home in Kalona at the age of 86 years.


Nedra is survived by her husband Leo of Kalona; son Leon (Robin) Schrock of Parnell; daughter-in-law Rhonda Schrock of Hesston, KS; 12 grandchildren: Morgan and Kaitlyn Schrock of Hesston, KS; Levi (Elaine) Schrock of Kalona; Lane Schrock of Sarasota, FL; Summer, Joya, London, Luke, Liam, Lawson, Annika, and Landry Schrock all of Parnell; and a brother Ned (Maggie) Miller of Windsor Heights. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son John, one sister Jean Thomas, and two brothers Lynn Miller and Roger Miller.




Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, June 8, 2017 at the Kalona Mennonite Church in Kalona. Rev. Scott Swartzendruber and Rev. Josh Lundberg will officiate. Burial will be in the Sharon Hill Cemetery in Kalona. Visitation will be held from 1-8 PM onWednesday, June 7, 2017 at the Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona where the family will greet friends from 1-4 and 6-8 PM. A memorial fund has been established for Iowa Mennonite School. The Yoder-Powell Funeral Home is caring for Nedra and her family. www.powellfuneralhomes.com
