Life Story for
Doralene Olson
SIGOURNEY-Doralene Olson, age 85, of Sigourney, died Tuesday, January 17, 2017, at the Keokuk County Health Center in Sigourney.
Doralene was born January 2, 1932, in Grinnell, the daughter of Howard and Harriett (Mintle) Walker and received her education in What Cheer and Barnes City schools. On December 12, 1959, she married Darrell Olson in Omaha, Nebraska. The couple lived in Des Moines, where Doralene was a manager at Elko Photo Products for 15 years. They then moved to the Sigourney area in 1970, where Doralene worked at Kingsbury Homes until it closed. In 1979, they returned to Ankeny, then back to Sigourney in 1989, where she was a day care provider for several years. Doralene attended the What Cheer Christian Church and enjoyed ceramics, attending craft shows, leisurely time at the casinos, traveling, spending time with her family and her dog, Cocoa.
Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Darrell; three children: Deborah (Ronnie) Repp of Sigourney, Thomas (Kala) King of Des Moines and Brad (Vicki) Olson of What Cheer; two step-sons: James (Tracie) Olson and Jack (Patricia) Olson, both of Des Moines; 20 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; three sisters: Jackie Culp of What Cheer, June Leydens of Des Moines and Dorothea Walker of Delta and one brother: Daryl Walker of San Antonio, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers: Calvin Walker, Arlan Walker and Gary Walker and two sisters: Roberta Hartwig and Jeannine Hartwig.
Memorial visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 21, 2017, at Powell Funeral Home in Sigourney. Burial will be at Garrett Cemetery near Delta at a later date.
